Lance Boldrey, the head of Dykema Gossett's Indian Law practice was at one-time lead counsel on Indian matters for former Michigan Governor John Engler. Boldrey was involved in negotiations between the Bay Mills Indian Community and Governor Engler's administration over claims to 110-acres in the Charlotte Beach subdivision east of Barbeau, Michigan. The so-called "settlement agreement" would give the Bay Mills tribe the right to develop an off-reservation casino in Port Huron, Michigan; nearly 350 miles from the tribe's existing reservation.
